How often do we wake up already running — rehearsing our career anxieties, replaying yesterday’s conversations, trying to engineer the clarity that only one source can actually give?
I for one. It is very easy to fall into this rhythm where we lead our lives, because there are so many distractions pulling us in every direction. God, however, calls us not to live our lives on our own. In fact, there is a better way — a way so that we can live peaceful and wonderful lives, not led by us, but led by Him.
In our last reflection, Become a Fool, we explored how the world’s definition of wisdom is often the very thing that blinds us. Despite how wise we think we are, we are not truly wise without first being humble and seeking Him. Today, that truth finds its natural next step.
Because in today’s reading, we don’t encounter a distant God watching from afar. We encounter one who leans in.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” — Psalm 32:8
Seek Him first, and watch what happens.
My experience has taught me time and time again that when I start with Him, everything just flows naturally — and I end up doing things I never thought I could.
There was one time, right after a deep and intense prayer, I placed a trade that led to a quick profit within an hour. I did not even plan to do it. Something in me just pushed me to act, and I followed it.
There was also another time when I was asked at work to jump on an urgent call as an executive sponsor for a deal and help close it. The ask came just two hours before the call. I had no context about the deal and had never met the prospect. I remember the panic rising — but then I made a choice. I stopped, prayed, and surrendered myself to God. I asked Him to speak for me. And He did. We closed the deal.
It is moments like these — moments of deep trust and full surrender — where the best things happen. It is not just about seeking Him. It is about believing, with everything you have, that He will deliver for you.
This is the invitation of Psalm 32:8. Not a formula. Not a productivity hack. A relationship. A daily, intentional choice to say: before I fill my mind with the world’s noise, I will sit in His presence first.
The world is wonderful. Your career can be purposeful, your relationships full of life, your mind anchored in peace — but only when they flow from that foundation.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. — Isaiah 55:8
You were never meant to figure it all out on your own. And the good news? You don’t have to.
Seek Him first. Then watch.
