23 so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. 24 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” 25 So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon[a] to Gezer.
2 Samuel 5:23-25
After reading 1 Samuel and some parts of 2 Samuel, I recognized a repeating phrase in the Bible that starts with “David inquired of the Lord…” where he would get his strategy and plans from God.
Whenever a group of men provoked him or his men, he would check with God first, “Shall I pursue them?” where God would give his approval and sometimes the approach of attack. So I did a search in the bible app and found these:

Wow! Just look at the amount of inquiries David made to the Lord. David treated God as his mentor and personal advisor.
Why don’t we do this today? We rely too much on our own judgment, expertise, experience, and advice from family and/or friends we trust, . Why don’t we do what David did?
We need to treat God as our mentor and our personal advisor. We should get guidance from him, get permission, and get advice. Some of us even pay an executive coach to help us at work or go see a therapist for advice. Yet we have a free mentor/therapist/advisor available to us who we don’t use.
Happy Sunday!
